Thoronet Abbey in Provence

Located less than an hour from Camping de La Pascalinette®, Thoronet Abbey forms part of the “Three Provencal Sisters” alongside the Cistercian abbeys of Sénanque (Vaucluse) and Silvacane (Bouches du Rhône). Built between 1160 and 1230 and damaged during the French Revolution, its restoration work began in 1841.

A listed monument since 1840, Thoronet Abbey is quoted on the Fontenay Abbey (Burgundy) UNESCO World Heritage Listing as being the “most perfect example” of Cistercian architecture.

Open every day, all year round, the abbey is a wonderfully calm and refreshing site for a day excursion and is bathed in a particularly peaceful atmosphere.

On your way back, you can stop off at Lac de Carcès lake or visit the nearby castle to appreciate some of the Var area’s inland treasures…
