Musée de la Mine du Cap Garonne – a mineralogical site in the Var, French Riviera-Côte d'Azur

Don your helmet and head off for a tour of one of the world’s finest mineralogical sites, located just a few minutes from your favourite family campsite!

A genuine living lesson, this ancient copper mine promises a fabulous family excursion!

Nestling at the heart of an exceptional forest gazing over the Mediterranean Sea, the Cap Garonne ancient copper mine boasts an extraordinary diversity and quantity of crystals. Set on a 141-metre hill next to Massif de la Colle Noire, the site features a little botanical footpath overlooking the sea, with fabulous 360° vistas over the Golden Islands, Bay of Toulon, Saint-Mandrier, Cap Sicié, Le Pradet and Carqueiranne.

You can also admire the ancient ruined factory, with its brick chimney.

Larger than life! The mine in the 19th century

The mine tour (in the company of a guide or self-guided) lasts around an hour and promises a fascinating plunge into the life of miners in days gone by, with reconstructed decors and animated scenes recreating the atmosphere of this unique site.

Remember to wrap up warm as the indoor temperature remains at a constant 15°C all year round!

Please note that the site is also accessible to accompanied reduced-mobility guests, while a written guide is available for people with auditory disabilities.
