Presentation

Hedychium coronarium, white garland-lily or white ginger lily

Hedychium coronarium is a specific variety of white ginger lily characterized by its magnificent white flowers and captivating fragrance that deliciously perfumes the alleys of our four-star campsite Les Jardins de La Pascalinette ® in La Londe.

In the South of France and hence here in the Var area, it grows outdoors. Its magnificent floral clusters are reminiscent of a swarm of little butterflies, adding yet another poetic note to our beautiful nature campsite!

What’s more, our lucky campers can admire its blooms throughout their summer stay at our seaside campsite!

Native to Southeast Asia, this plant is widely grown for ornamental purposes, but it is also appreciated for its culinary and medicinal uses. In addition to their beauty, White ginger lily flowers exhale a sweet, floral scent, making them a popular choice for floral arrangements and ornamental gardens alike.

A gastronomic plant

On the culinary front, although all parts of the plant are edible, including the roots and leaves, Hedychium coronarium is primarily grown for its aromatic rhizomes, which offer up a sweet and floral ginger flavour. Although it is not used in the classic Provencal specialities we love so much, it is ideal for flavouring sweet and savoury dishes alike and can also be used to prepare refreshing drinks and herbal teas.

White ginger lily is also prized in traditional medicine for its anti-inflammatory, analgesic and digestive properties. Extracts from the plant are sometimes used to relieve stomach upsets, muscle pain and skin inflammation.
