Presentation

A shrub commonly-found in the Var area

Unlike its peers, this lilac variety sometimes blooms in autumn.

Lagerstroemia indica is a decorative shrub native to Korea, China and Japan. Its somewhat exotic aspect is heightened by its spectacular blooms, forming large clusters (panicles) of little flowers (the campsite‘s lilac produces pink flowers).

It is characterized by a smooth bark that peels off in thin layers, creating a fascinating artistic effect.

This plant’s medicinal properties are renowned in various traditional Asian treatments: the leaves and bark can be used for their anti-inflammatory or anti-bacterial benefits. The leaves are also said to treat diabetes. The flowers are sometimes used as an anti-spasmodic (digestive issues, anxiety, etc.).

Beware: the seeds contain narcotic agents!

The Lilac of the South is resistant to heat and drought, making it an ideal choice for the climate of the Var area, French Riviera-Côte d’Azur. For our greatest viewing pleasure, its foliage turns a beautiful shade of red in autumn, before finally falling.
