1. Meet the animals at the Jardin Zoologique Tropical

Located just a few minutes from the town centre, these small zoological gardens harbour an astonishing collection of tropical animals, ranging from monkeys to lemurs, giant tortoises and colourful bird species, topped with lush, exotic vegetation perfect for a walk in the shade.

Good to know: the gardens host treasure hunts for children from time to time. Tour length, 1 ½ to 2 hours.

2. Have fun on plage de l’Argentière

THE family beach in La Londe. Its calm, shallow waters allow children to splash around in all safety, so mum and dad can enjoy some well-earned rest and relaxation. Lifeguards are on site during the summer season, and you’ll find snacks and toilets nearby.

Practical tip: get there before 10 a.m. in summer to avoid the crowds and make sure you can park easily. The car parks are free.

3. Enjoy an adventure on Porquerolles island

by boat from the port of La Londe les Maures, Porquerolles is a delight for all ages. No cars, golden sandy beaches and bike rides under the pines… Children love its “Treasure Island” feel. Sporty families can enjoy exploring the local trails leading to spectacular viewpoints.

Recommendation for families with tiny tots: hire a bike fitted with a trailer or baby seat when you arrive on the island.

4. Swing from the treetops at a local Acrobranch park

Fancy a shot of adrenalin? The Accro Aventures park in Hyères offers treetop adventure courses for children aged 3 and above. Kitted out with ziplines, nets and monkey bridges, they allow children to progress at their own pace, under the watchful eye of the park’s monitors.

Parents: make the most of the relaxation area while the kids are scrabbling around in the treetops.

Easily accessible from Plage de l’Argentière, the coastal footpath (sentier du littoral) offers a gentle stroll dotted with pine woods, secret beaches and fabulous views over the Golden Islands. Ideal for families with small children, although a few rare sections require extra care.

Take along water bottles, hats and binoculars for observing the seabirds.
