A touch of history… How this unique park was born
An agreement was signed between the town council and Albert Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire (then director of the “Jardin d’acclimatation” in Paris), allowing the creation of a garden for tropical plant species adapted to the region’s climate. The park was initially called the “Jardin d’acclimatation de Hyères (Var) Clos-Ricquier” and was attached to the “Jardin d’acclimatation” in Paris.
The pride and joy of the town, it was also home to one of its first genuine palm groves, created in the late 19th century thanks to Etienne Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire .
The park was reworked in 1965 and 1991 to restore its original splendour.
The Parc Olbius Riquier in Hyères, a joy for all the family!
The park is also home to a small animal park, featuring deer, goats, geese, parrots, peacocks, ducks and monkeys!
Its exotic greenhouse harbours dazzling tropical bird species.
This relaxing park offers a peaceful environment perfect for relaxing in the shade of veteran trees or near the soothing waterfall. You can also make the most of the park benches and certain lawns. Dotted with little bridges and ponds filled with colourful fish, it is a haven for strollers. Our four-legged friends are also welcome as long as they are kept on a lead.
Feeling peckish or thirsty? No problem! The park also features a snack bar complete with terrace serving drinks and ice creams, located just in front of the tourist train station.
