La Ste Baume

Yes, you read it right, the Sainte-Baume hills are home to many hiking spots! A major pilgrimage site and walker’s paradise, the hills overflow with magical trails of varying difficulty. Our four-star campsite Les Jardins de La Pascalinette® has hand-picked their favourites for our guests.

Please note that the first (accessible) trail, bearing the Tourism & Handicap label, starts out from the foot of the Sainte Baume hills.

Mary Magdalene’s grotto

is situated on the GR 9 trail departing from Plan-d’Aups, 1¼ hours from your favourite campsite.

It takes the “Way of the cross” to Mary Magdalene’s grotto, and you can continue on after your visit to the grotto if you’re feeling sporty!

On your way, you’ll be able to admire the magnificent Sainte Baume forest and its typical Provencal vegetation, together with Col du St Pilon.

Parking: car park of the Hostellerie de la Sainte Baume.

The walk is a bit sporty, especially when the Mistral wind is blowing!

Difficulty: easy – Length: 2¾ – 3 hrs – Distance: 6.5 km

Sainte Baume Ridge (Crête)

This trail also departs from Plan-d’Aups and you can stop off at the grotto before continuing on to the ridge. There are several options for the return trip: a fairly sporty trail or the more casual “Sentier Merveilleux” path. Everything is well signposted, but take your map along just in case!

Difficulty: average – Length: 5 – 5 ½ hrs – Distance: 14 km

There are other exciting options too: Pic de Bertagne, Col du Fauge (via Riboux), or the Ravin des Infernets (departing from Auriol a bit further from the campsite, but its grottos and natural spring are definitely worth the effort. What’s more, the walk is easy!).

In short, you’ll always find time for one or two sportier (and very scenic) excursions for all the family while you’re holidaying at the campsite. And of course, our fabulous water park awaits you for some fun and frolicking on your return!
