Port-Cros National Park
There are 9 national parks in France and Camping de La Pascalinette® is lucky enough to live right next door to one!

Accessible by boat, Port-Cros, one of the three Golden Islands, is protected by a National Park of the same name, which actually spans several towns and a large maritime zone: 4,200 acres of land and 7,200 acres of water!
Created in 1963, it is France and Europe’s oldest national park. Its historic heritage is vast and encompasses Roma remains (such as the Olbia site), around 20 military forts and 30 underwater wrecks.

It has evolved over the years and now features:
- Two “beating hearts” open to the public: the islands of Port-Cros and Porquerolles (and a 600-metre maritime zone around them),
- A sustainable development project in partnership with the towns of Hyères-les-Palmiers, Le Pradet, La Garde, Ramatuelle and La Croix-Valmer,
- An “adjacent maritime area” spanning the coast from La Garde to Ramatuelle and up to 5 km south of the Golden Islands.

The Porquerolles National Mediterranean Botanical Conservatory is managed by the national park and also provides assistance to Giens peninsula.
Port-Cros National Park also coordinates and monitors the Mediterranean Sanctuary for Marine Mammals (Pélagos), born out of a partnership between Italy, Monaco and France and spanning 87,500 km².
The national park includes several protected areas: Ilot de la Bagaud, Ilôt de la Gabinière and the Pelagos Sanctuary.
According to official figures, the park is home to 602 land-based plants, 500 seaweed species, 144 bird species (including 40 nesting birds), 180 fish species and several endemic terrestrial species.
Its missions are simple: protect and preserve, learn and understand, educate and raise awareness.
You may just find yourself inside the park without even knowing it, for example if you’re snorkelling at Plage du Bouvet (Giens)* to admire the sunken amphoras, at the Olbia archaeological site, or any of the local snorkelling trails.
You’re also inside the park when you’re visiting the Moulin du Bonheur mill or Fort Sainte Agathe on Porquerolles island…
You will love exploring the plant footpath and writers’ walk on Port-Cros island, the Niel botanical footpath on Giens peninsula and coastal footpath at Cape Taillat (Ramatuelle).
The list is literally endless; that’s why we’ve created a compilation of “Nos Coins de Paradis®” (Our Corners of Paradise), so you can explore the many treasures of Provence and find exactly what makes your heart sing while you’re holidaying with us.
