Balade à Carcès, centre-Var

Located under an hour from Camping de La Pascalinette®, the old village of Carcès is without a doubt one of the most beautiful (and peaceful) villages in the Var, French Riviera-Côte d’Azur. Built on top of a hill (at an altitude of around 130 metres), it pans out around an ancient medieval castle.

Its houses, crowned with glazed tiles, date back to the 18th century. The castle – now used for exhibitions – was built in the 16th century. It was partially destroyed during WWI, then restored in the early 2000s. Self-guided tours (outside exhibitions).

Don’t miss a visit to the Chutes de Caramy waterfall. The Caramy river springs from the Sainte Baume hills and throws itself into the Argens river at Carcès. It is a coveted picnic and walking venue!



The local wine cooperative (also called the “Hameau des Vignerons”) sells mainly rosé wines. You can taste and purchase them on site.

Lac de Carcès lake, referred to in bygone days as the “Lake of the Fountain of Ajonc”, located about 15 minutes from the village, offers 8 km of tranquil shores perfect for a relaxing day out in the shade. It is also a very popular fishing spot – a genuine fishermen’s paradise in fact! You can opt for a range of other leisure activities too, including riding, cycling (especially mountain biking) and even climbing (Falaise de Brauch).

Carcès is also the departure point for 10 delightful hiking trails. And of course, you’ll be able to rest your tired legs in the campsite jacuzzi when you get back…



Carcès is the perfect stop-off if you’re spending a day in the Provence Verte area. It is located 11 km from the organic village of Correns, 13 km from Le Thoronet and its magnificent Cistercian Abbey and 20 km from Châteauvert, a delightful village and international rock climbing hotspot!
