A land of sunshine with charm to spare, the Var area, French Riviera-Côte d’Azur, unveils itself as you embark on this cycle tour crossing the region’s most beautiful historic villages.

Departing from Carcès, less than 70 km from the campsite, this 88 km loop plunges cyclists into the history and heritage of our legendary region. Winding through countrified (and sporty) areas of Provence, it promises to delight with exceptional scenery, architectural treasures, medieval marvels and picturesque Troglodyte dwellings. The perfect pick for an active and culture-filled holiday at our campsite!

The route

  • This loop starts out from Carcès, a typical Provençal village with narrow lanes, a lake and château:
  • Cotignac, the village of 17 fountains and its Troglodyte dwellings clinging to the cliff face,
  • Pontevès, with its ramparts and ancient oil mill,
  • Fox-Amphoux, a tranquil hilltop village,
  • Sillans-la-Cascade, a refreshing haven complete with a waterfall,
  • Salernes, the ceramics capital,
  • Entrecasteaux, and the charm of the Renaissance,
  • Saint-Antonin-du-Var, home to stone houses and chateaux,
  • Le Thoronet, with its iconic Cistercian abbey,
  • And back to peaceful Carcès and its 12th-century church.

With its stunning vistas over the hills and vineyards of the Var area, this sporty and countrified cycle tour is perfect for cyclists seeking adventure and heritage discoveries. You can stop off to drink in the scenery and immerse yourself in the peace and beauty of Provence at every stage of the loop.

NB: this tour is demanding (and even difficult), with an uphill climb of 1,005 metres. It is therefore ideal for trained cyclists keen to experience historic marvels combined with magnificent natural scenery. The loop takes about 5.5 hours to complete depending on your level… and mental stamina!
