What do we mean by a “quiet beach” near Hyères?
Before we unveil our selection, let’s have a look at what we mean by a quiet beach. Because tranquillity isn’t always synonymous with complete isolation! Here is our list of criteria:
- Few people even in high season (especially mornings and weekdays).
- Preserved natural environment and no background hubbub.
- No motorized water sports or nearby noisy activities.
- Moderate accessibility – some require a bit of walking.
- Frequented by locals and families rather than crowds of tourists.
Thanks to the above criteria, we have been able to draw up an honest and useful selection you won’t find on the usual promotional listings.

The 10 quietest beaches around Hyères
1. Plage de la Vignette – Giens
Why we love it: discreet, wild and a holder of the Tourism & Handicap label.
This tiny beach on Giens peninsula is often overlooked by holidaymakers. Accessible on foot via a little path lined with rocks and vegetation, it offers magnificent views over Porquerolles island. You won’t find a shower or car park (except a few spaces) there, so the beach remains very peaceful even in the middle of August.
- Type: fine sand and pebbles.
- Access: 15 mins on foot from the Madrague quarter.
- Attendance: local, couples, hikers.
- Perfect for: siesta, reading, snorkelling.
Good to know: Arrive before 10 am and bring along water and a hat.
2. Plage de Notre-Dame – Porquerolles
Why we love it: probably the island’s most beautiful beach – and one of the quietest!
Accessible only on foot or by bike, Plage de Notre-Dame is one of the gems of Porquerolles islands. Its isolation (35-40 minutes on foot from the port port) discourages most tourists, who prefer to lay their towel down at handier spots such as La Courtade. Result: a turquoise lagoon, very little noise and lashings of charm!
- Type: fine sand, shallow waters.
- Access: by ferry + 40 min walk or 15 min bike ride.
- Attendance: moderate (morning) / light (late afternoon).
- Perfect for: sporty families, photographers, picnics.
Good to know: hire a bike when you arrive at the island and take some sandals for bathing (small pebbles at the water’s edge).
3. Plage de l’Estagnol – Bormes-les-Mimosas
Why we love it: despite its popularity, this is still one of the quietest beaches in the area – as long as you get there early in the morning.
Nestled in a pine-lined cove, l’Estagnol is a sublime beach sheltered from prevailing winds. Although it gets busy from midday onwards, it is wonderfully quiet from 8.30 to 10.30 am, particularly on weekdays. The water is shallow out to several tens of metres, so children can play there in all safety..
- Type: silver sand, shallow lagoon.
- Access: nearby paying car park.
- Attendance: high after 11 am.
- Perfect for: families with small children.
Good to know: access costs €11-12 during the day but is free of charge if you arrive on foot or by bike via the coastal footpath.
4. Plage du Pellegrin – La Londe-les-Maures
Why we love it: a natural setting between forest and sea, with no visible tourist amenities.
This beach lies next to a vineyard and benefits from a relatively discreet access. You can reach it on foot along the coastal footpath. By car, you can only stay for a limited time and the car park is paying. This little corner of paradise between La Londe and Bormes is perfect for reading or simply admiring the view.

- Access: 5 mins on foot from the paying car park or along the coastal footpath from Plage de l’Estagnol or Plage de l’Argentière in La Londe.

Good to know: make the most of your day out with a visit to the next-door vineyard!
5. Plage du Monaco – Le Pradet
Why we love it: intimate, difficult to reach, gorgeous views.
The sublime Plage du Monaco boasts all the beauty of a Corsican cove. To get there, you’ll need to go down a long earth and rock staircase (it discourages many visitors). But total peace and quiet await, with crystal-clear waters, lots of fish and spectacular views over the surrounding cliffs. (Choose your area: swimwear or naturist!).
- Type: pebble, rocky bottom.
- Access: path + steep staircase.
- Attendance: very low (outside weekends).
- Perfect for: snorkelling, solitary swimming.
Good to know: wear water shoes – the pebbles at the water’s edge can be unstable.
6. Plage de la Mitre – Toulon Est
Why we love it: this totally unspoiled beach is astonishingly quiet.
Located next to the Bay of Toulon, near the cliffs of Cap Brun, Plage de la Mitre is a well-kept secret. It is not on the usual tourist route, making it a haven of peace. To get there, you’ll need to go down a steep staircase, which naturally limits attendance.
- Type: brown sand, cliffs.
- Access: on foot (staircase) from Avenue de la Mitre.
- Attendance: very low (except on some Sundays in summer).
- Perfect for: a tranquil swim, daydreaming.
Good to know: watch out for swell, which can reduce the width of the beach.
7. Plage du Sud – Port-Cros
Why we love it: soft sand, easy to reach and chill atmosphere.
Although better known, this beach boasts a peaceful, family atmosphere – especially outside the summer months. Lined with vegetation, it is ideal for a day out in the shade of pine trees at the water’s edge.
- Type: silver sand, gentle slope.
- Access: parking just next door.
- Attendance: moderate, never very crowded.
- Perfect for: families with small children.
Good to know: you can take fabulous pics there in the late afternoon light, with nobody in the way!.

Why we love it: a large beach with few people, even in August.
Located to the far east of the town of Hyères, Plage des Salins is somewhat off the beaten track – and luckily so if you’re seeking a quiet spot! Its wide open spaces mean you can easily set your parasol up far from any groups. You won’t find restaurants or noisy chatter there either: just the sea, wind and sky.
The side opposite Port Pothuau is a naturist beach spanning around 250 m.
- Type: golden sand, very wide.

- Attendance: very low in the morning.

9. Calanque de Porto Fino – Cap Bénat
Why we love it: the views over Porquerolles and Port-Cros are idyllic.
This intimate cove is completely untouched and can only be reached via the coastal footpath (from Plage de la Favière), so you won’t find too many people there. You’ll know you’ve arrived when you spot the pontoon. Don’t expect too many modern comforts – but there is a shower!
